We have had this recipe quite a bit and it's always a hit! We have made it both on the grill and in the oven, in a pan or wrapped in foil packets and it's never failed! It's a go to when we have company. I usually make a little extra sauce if we don't cook it in foil packets for dipping! When we make it in foil packets I wrap them individually, each person gets their own packet (and their own dipping sauce). When I bake it, depending on the thickness of the filets, I bake about 20-25 minutes.

It's quick and easy! Halibut can be pricey but we are fortunate enough to have a freezer stocked of fresh caught halibut from the summer! We have also used Salmon and rockfish instead and it's just as tasty!

So here's the recipe...

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound halibut steaks
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • salt and pepper to taste

Preparation:

Combine all ingredients, except the halibut, in a small saucepan over a medium heat. Mix until sugar is dissolved. Preheat grill. Place halibut steaks on grill and cook on each side for about 5 minutes basting with sauce. Grill until done. Halibut should be opaque through to the middle and flake easily with a fork.
